Foodbuzz Publisher Community Launches

Hey everyone - did you hear about the official launch of the Foodbuzz Publisher Community? They had 1100 publishers already, and growing. Foodbuzz is like Facebook for food bloggers (as a matter of fact, they have a group on Facebook, find it here). Check out their press release:

LAUNCH OF GLOBAL FOODBUZZ BLOGGER COMMUNITY

LEVERAGES REAL-PEOPLE, REAL-TIME POWER OF FOOD PUBLISHING

San Francisco – October 13, 2008: Foodbuzz, Inc., officially inaugurates its food blogger community with more than 1,000 blog partners, a global food blogging event and an online platform that captures the real-people, real-time power of food publishing in every corner of the world. At launch, the Foodbuzz community ranks as one of the top-10 Internet destinations for food and dining (Quantcast), with bloggers based in 45 countries and 863 cities serving up daily food content.

“Food bloggers are at the forefront of reality publishing and the dramatic growth of new media has redefined how food enthusiasts access tasty content,” said Doug Collister, Executive Vice President of Foodbuzz, Inc. “Food bloggers are the new breed of local food experts and at any minute of the day, Foodbuzz is there to help capture the immediacy of their hands-on experiences, be it a memorable restaurant meal, a trip to the farmers market, or a special home-cooked meal.”

Foodbuzz is the only online community with content created exclusively by food bloggers and rated by foodies. The site offers more than 20,000 pieces of new food and dining content weekly, including recipes, photos, blog posts, videos and restaurant reviews. Members decide the “tastiness” of each piece of content by voting and “buzz” the most popular posts to the top of the daily menu of submissions. Foodbuzz currently logs over 13 million monthly page views and over three million monthly unique visitors.

“Our goal is to be the number-one online source of quality food and dining content by promoting the talent, enthusiasm and knowledge of food bloggers around the globe,” said Ben Dehan, founder and CEO of Foodbuzz, Inc.

The Foodbuzz blogger community is growing at a rate of 40 percent per month driven by strong growth in existing partner blogs and the addition of over 100 new blogs per month. “The Foodbuzz.com Web site is like the stock of a great soup. The Web site provides the base or backbone for bloggers to interact as a community, contribute content, and have that content buzzed by their peers,” said Mr. Dehan.

Global Blogging Event

Demonstrating the talent and scope of the Foodbuzz community, 24 Meals, 24 Hours, 24 Blogs offered online food enthusiasts an international, virtual street festival of food and diversity. The new feature showcased blog posts from 24 Foodbuzz partner bloggers chronicling events occurring around the globe during a 24 hour period and included:

“24 Meals, 24 Hours, 24 Blogs” captures the quality and unique local perspective of our food bloggers and shared it with the world,” said Ryan Stern, Director of the Foodbuzz Publisher Community. “It illustrates exactly what the future of food publishing is all about – real food, experienced by real people, shared real-time.”

About Foodbuzz, Inc.

Based in San Francisco, Foodbuzz, Inc., launched its beta Web site, foodbuzz.com, in 2007. In less than a year, Fooduzz.com and its community of over 1,000 exclusive partner food blogs have grown into an extended online property that reaches more than three million users.

100 must-eat American foods

I'm sure you've seen numerous posts of the Omnivore's 100 started by Very Good Taste. But did you see Slashfood's 100 must-eat American foods? I have a feeling that lists of 100 food items may be the new Tastespotting / Food Gawker / Recipe Muncher / Photograzing. Hmm...is there a Vegetarian's 100 yet? Celiac's 100? 100 must-eat Australian foods? Just wait, there probably will be.

Update 9/3/08: I ran across Helen's The British One Hundred today...I think I like this game, I now have 300 instead of just 100 items to try :-)

I'm a bit confused by #63 Kaolin...from what I can find, it's a type of clay...and some people (mostly in Georgia, according to the interwebs) eat it...WTF?

Also, I've had rabbit (yum), but not hare, but I still think that's good enough to bold #86.

And, I've just spent about 30 minutes trying to get the HTML tags to print out to show how to cross out items (like I did for #75 Roadkill), but Blogger won't let me. So, I'm going to be daring and slightly rude, and modify VGT's instructions - if you wouldn't ever try something, make it red, or type a big NOOOO!!!!! after it. :-)

Do We Really Need Another One?

With the temporary shutdown of Tastespotting, 3 sites quickly filled the gap - Food Gawker, Food Porn Daily, and Recipe Muncher.

I personally prefer Food Porn Daily, because of Rachel's commentary.

Food Gawker is good, close to the old Tastespotting.

Recipe Muncher has some RSS feed problems, e.g. I got "New York Style Cheesecake - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" in my reader 27 times in 24 hours. Also, sometimes there are coding problems and you don't see the pic, just a bunch of HTML in your reader, and a 404 when you click thru, e.g. Singapore Style Mee Siam from this morning.

But now there's another one, Photograzing, run by Serious Eats.

And, as you probably know, Tastespotting is back.

I'm thoroughly overloaded. My reader now has 149 unread entries from FG, FPD, RM and TS, accumulated over only 18 hours.

Will I subscribe to Photograzing too? Probably not...

More Food Porn

In addition to Food Porn Daily run by Caviar and Codfish, there are now 2 more:

Food Porn Daily, run by Pinch My Salt and What We're Eating.
Food Gawker, run by Sunday Nite Dinner.

Looks like we won't have to suffer in a post-Tastespotting world.

Tastespotting is so 2 days ago

I admit it, I was a little confused when my reader didn't have any updates from Tastespotting. Then a little shocked when I saw the note. Shock quickly led to despair. Where would I get my daily dose of food porn?

But life took a turn for the better this morning, when I opened up the new post from Caviar and Codfish, and read that Robin was starting Food Porn Daily.

So everybody get your cyber-butts over there right now and delight in the deliciousness that is to come.
