Non-Food Post - Marriage Meme

There's this thing going around the Interwebs, I think it started on Facebook. A bunch of questions about you and your mate. Since I've been away from mine for a few days, this fits in perfectly.

What are your middle names?
Mine's Carol, Hubby's would have been William, but his mom forgot to write it in on his birth certificate.

How long have you been together?
A little over 10 years.

How long did you know each other before you started dating?
A couple months.

Who asked whom out?
He asked me to go to his cousin's wedding.

How old are each of you?
I'm 33, he's 37.

Whose siblings do you see the most?
We see his brother, who lives in LA, most often, since my bro is in Chicago, 2500 miles away. (Except, as I type, I'm currently in Chicago, just having seen my brother.)

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
The kids. He lets them get away with way more than I would, but I'm step-mommy, so I don't press it too often. Even though I probably should.

Did you go to the same school?
Nope.

Are you from the same home town?
Nope. I'm from the Chicago 'burbs, he's from LA.

Who is smarter?
I'm smart enough not to answer this.

Who is the most sensitive?
I'd say him, he'd say me. We're both sensitive, but to different things, in different ways.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?
Uncle Tony's Italian Cuisine in Vista. Love that place.

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Chicago.

Who has the craziest exes?
Him, definitely. Mine weren't crazy, just mostly lame.

Who has the worst temper?
Um...yeah...that'd be me. Oh, that hole in the wall? Yeah, sorry, that was me.

Who does the cooking?
Me. But he's the one who taught me how to make enchiladas, chile verde, fried rice, fried fish, cucumber salad, chile sauce, etc. And if we're doing barbecue for 20 people, that's all him.

Who is the neat-freak?
Both of us, in our separate ways. I can't stand things not in their proper place. (How the hell do you accumulate 3 pairs of your shoes in the living room? Why can't you wash your dishes instead of piling them next to the sink? Do you seriously need to leave half your closet on the bed when trying to figure out what to wear to work?) He can't stand the dog-shed on the floor.

Who is more stubborn?
We're both fighting for that title.

Who hogs the bed?
The 4-lb chihuahua.

Who wakes up earlier?
Me during the work-week, him on weekends.

Where was your first date?
Our first "date that's not a date" was to see Blade w/Wesley Snipes.

Who is more jealous?
Him, definitely.

How long did it take to get serious?
Not sure, really. But neither of us dated anyone else after we started dating each other. We dated a little less than a year before he moved into my apartment. He might've moved in earlier, but he waited to move in until my roommate moved out.

Who eats more?
Him.

Who does the laundry?
Me.

Who’s better with the computer?
Me. Unless it's a Mac. At which point I really don't care.

Who drives when you are together?
80% me, 20% him, because we typically take my car, and I don't particularly care for the way he drives :)

I've Been Tagged, with a Brief Mention of Food

Betts over at Damn Yankee tagged me in a meme, so here goes:
Here’s what you/I have to do:

1) Post a picture of whatever bag you are carrying as of late, and you can't go digging through the bowels of your closet for the cutest bag you have. So what if it's ugly; we'll love you anyway. It should be the bag you carried today or the last time you left the house.

2) Tell us how much it cost. Go ahead, and slay us with your frugality and your ability to grab a good deal. Or if you decided to pony up a lot of money, good for you, girl... you deserve it. And if there is a story to go along with how you obtained it, I’d love to hear it.

(3) Tag some of your people. And link back to me, so everyone knows why we're having this little show and tell.
Here's my bag. It's Liz Claiborne, I've had it for a couple-three years, and have no recollection of what it cost, maybe $20, probably at TJ Maxx. I tied a knot in the strap because it was just a little bit too long. (And now I can't find a replacement bag with a long enough strap!)

Here are the contents:

Wallet, scrunchy, powder, mirror, eyeshadow, nail file, chapstick, lipstick, eye drops, keys, checkbook, random bits of paper for shopping lists. Also my phone and a little case for my flash drive and SD memory card reader. And no, I didn't clean it out prior to the pic, I have to keep it minimal because the (new) wallet's so damn big there's no room for anything else.

And, since this is a food blog, here's some spaghetti.

And here are some jalapenos poached in olive oil.

Fingers Crossed and Resolutions

Yup, a meme. Bob at Cooking Stuff tagged me, and now I need to list four things I would wish for (fingers crossed) and four resolutions, of the New Years variety.

Fingers crossed is easy:

1. My Oldest gets her sh&t together.
2. I don't lose my house. I'm currently upside-down, as is my smile :(
3. My family and friends, especially my adopted mom, stay and/or get healthy.
4. I win the lottery (hey, that would help with #2, right?).

I don't do New Year's resolutions - 1) I don't like to set myself up for disappointment, and 2) Why wait for a New Year? If you want to change something in your life, do it. Don't risk waiting 11 months.

I told a coworker that I resolved not to make any New Year's resolutions, and by doing so, I had immediately failed, and he told me that was an "unenterable paradigm". True. (And his comment confirmed my opinion that he's a bigger dork than I.)

So...if I were to make resolutions:

1. Finally pick one language to learn fluently instead of random bits and pieces of 20 different ones.
2. Finish Dante's Inferno. I've been trying for about 10 years.
3. Cook my way through (at least a little!) my 100ish cookbooks and 499 bookmarked recipes.
4. And finally, like Bob, try not to be so negative. It doesn't bother me much, but it seems to piss off the people around me.

I don't tag as a rule, so feel free to participate if you'd like.

Non-Food Post - Reviving a Literary Meme

I remember a meme running around the Interwebs a while ago, that asked you to pick up the nearest book at hand, go to the 123rd page, find the 5th sentence, and then post the following three sentences. Here's mine:
The allomorphs of a morpheme are in complementary distriubtion or free variation, that is, in noncontrastive distribution. The allomorphs /-s/ and /-z/ of {noun pl.}, for example, are in complementary distribution. /-s/ occurs after voiceless sounds as in caps /kæps/, and /-z/ occurs after voiced sounds as in cabs /kæbz/.
This is from A Linguistic History of English by Robert A. Peters (thanks, Mom!), a book I'm sure that nobody but me would bother reading unless required to.

Anybody want to join in? I don't like 'tagging' people, so if you want to participate, please leave a comment.

Look forward to seeing what you guys are reading!

Flickr Meme - Updated

Update 6/8/08: I had a picture entitled "Mouse Looking in Mirror" in this mosaic - it came up on the 1st page as an answer for #9, and it was cute, so I used it. I got a snarky email from Julie Dermansky, who apparently took the pic, saying:

"You have taken my image off flickr without my permission and used it on a rid on your blog. Not only do you not have my permission you dont attribute the picture. My images are not free to use-check the flirkr attribution talbe . Remove my image from you blog right away of give me a mailing adresss to send an invoice for web usage."

I responded to her, saying I very clearly gave all credits to all pictures I used in the mosaic. She responded by saying "it's a shitty way to attribute" and "remove me photo".

Really? I give a link to your Flickr photo, and that's shitty? Wow, chica, get a grip.
And after you get a grip, learn to type.

So, in light of that, I've replaced her stupid mouse looking in mirror photo with the censored puppy, which also happened to show up on the 1st page for my #9 answer. Beautifully ironic, isn't it?

Nothing food-related today. I stumbled across the Flickr meme. Or is it The Flickr Meme? I thought it would be fun. What I love about this is that you only pick photos from the first page of search results, and with new photos constantly being uploaded, you could do this once a week and it would always turn out different.
