Quite Possibly the Worst Food Quote Ever

"It is the string which holds together the ingredients to form a beautiful epicurean necklace."

WTF?

I try not to put string in any of my cooking. I haven't used even string cheese. I'm with you... WTF?

Hey Betts -
It's from a book on Chinese cooking from 1984 - I'm sure I'll have some other "good" quotes by the time I finish it :-)

What ingredient are they talking about that's the "string"?

Hey WC -
Here's the preceding sentence:
"Such is the magic of a basic Chinese condiment."
I agree with the concept, but I'm rather sickened by the metaphor.

That's actually hilarious. It makes me think of those old wooden beads (the big ones) on shoe strings and how much I would NOT like to have those in my mouth!

Hi Alecto -
This quote is amazing for bringing up unwanted visuals...

This actually got on print? Nice.

Not too much going on in the cookbook scene around '84 I guess.

Hi Jude -
Makes me want to go out and buy a whole bunch more "food writing" from that era and see what I can find :)
