Fiddleheads!

I exclaimed out loud when I saw these at Trader Joe's.

I've only read about fiddlehead ferns, never thought I'd ever see them in SoCal. But there they were, all green and curly, and I had to pick them up, regardless of the fact that they cost $5 and came from Canada. (Nothing against Canadians, it's just that these had to travel so far to get here!)

Now, what to do with them? I think I'll boil for a bit, then sauté in olive oil and garlic.

Wow! I'm amazed you found them at TJ's. Lucky you.

Hi Kitt -
I know, I still can't believe it! I'm almost afraid to cook them...

So? How did they taste? I gotta check my TJ's then and see if they have them. Although I did buy packaged ones from the Asian grocery store for only $1 or $2. They're brined so I haven't felt rushed to cook with them yet.

They were amazing! Kind of like asparagus, kind of like spinach, and something uniquely fiddleheady, I guess.

Hi Aria - I'm not sure I'm lucky, because now I want more, and I'll probably never see them again!
